The entire GWR Team contested the Castle Combe Easter Classic on Good Friday. With 24 laps of the exposed motor racing circuit facing the 60 strong field the 8 man team were looking to play a major role in deciding the outcome.
With the GWR team featuring in all of the moves in the opening laps, no significant move got away. As the riders approached the 7th lap a group of 9 riders began to move clear of the peloton, with Nic Tilling and Llewellyn Kinch among them. This group instantly started working well together; they built a lead over the peloton. The riders had to battle the strong wind as well as some heavy rain showers during the 100 minutes of racing.
With conditions taking their toll the chasing peloton fractured reformed and the broke up again several times during the race and it was not until the latter stages that a group of 7 managed to edge clear to form the main group of chasers, among this group were GWR teams Doug Dewey and Dave Sinclair. In the next group on the road was Sam Redding and James Hawkins as less than 30 riders continued into the final lap.
In the lead move an attack went on the bell lap form local rider Ian Alexander this was countered on the final lap by Llewellyn but was brought back on the final bend and had to settle for 7th position with Nic 8th,. With the chasing group coming in 30 seconds behind Dave came 2nd in the sprint to claimed 11th and Doug 16th, while both James and Sam also claimed top 20 positions after some strong riding in the final phase of the race.
