GWR Team

On Thursday 26th February, the Swindon based GWR Cycling Team launched their 2009 campaign with a presentation in association with Chordiem at the De Vere Hotel, in Swindon. The eight-man squad had a very successful 2008, taking 14 victories and a further 200 top five placings, enabling them to finish the season ranked 15th nationally from almost 500 teams.

This season sees a change to the line up with three new riders joining the team; the focus is still firmly on developing the U23 and junior riders for 2009. GWR team has retained key members Dan Smith, Peter Kench, Nic Tilling, Sam Redding and Llewellyn Kinch. They are joined by Neil Coleman, David Sinclair and the most recent signing Connor Ryan. The team has three U23 riders and one junior rider to support the next generation of stars in UK cycling.

The presentation was hosted by Eurosport commentator David Harmon for the unveiling of not only the new team kit for the 2009 season, provided by Spiuk, but also this year’s Giant TCR Advanced 2 bikes. There was also a short video presentation of GWR team’s achievements since its inception in 2006. GWR team’s plans for the coming season are to develop U23 riders with a varied race programme.

The main target is to retain the South Divisional Championships for both road and criterium racing and have a strong showing at the U23 national championship in June.

The team will continue to be supported in 2009 by Giant UK, Swindon Cycles Superstore, CyclePowerMeters.com and Continental Tyres. The team has secured new sponsorship from Spiuk, High 5, 3Vi and Joyriders.
